Sophia Bush is reflecting on her brief marriage to One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray, who she split from after five months due to his rampant cheating.
Bush, 44, appeared on Wednesday’s episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast where she shared details from her new memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, including her 2005 marriage to Murray — and their divorce the following year over his alleged affairs.
“I wrote about some of the friendships I made with women who I think the world would probably think I would never speak to, that I really cherish,” Bush told host Alex Cooper.
“And frankly, when I look at the landscape, I’m like badass, badass, badass, badass,” Bush continued. “You did have great taste, bro, and like, congrats, you crushed. I’m like, ‘I get it.’ I’m just like, ‘Damn.’ Like, in a lineup, I’d take any one of us.”
Bush explained that she’s able to maintain these friendships because they’ve evolved into “completely different people from who we were [then].”
Putting it behind her
She told Cooper she initially didn’t want to include their highly publicized marriage and divorce in the book, but said her editor pointed out, “I hate to break it to you. Google exists.”
The former Chicago P.D. star noted that whatever ill will she had toward her ex is all in the past.
“What felt important to me [to include in the book] was to say, ‘We were kids.’ We’re older. We’re all adults. We’re all parents. No harm, no foul,” Bush said, referring to Murray and Roemer’s three kids, and her stepchildren from Harris’ first marriage.
“[I] wish you well. Praise the adult you are. Hope it’s mutual.”
Ignorance isn’t bliss
The Grey’s Anatomy actress addressed the cheating speculation in her book, and joked to Cooper: “There was a while where my friends used to joke like, ‘Look up gullible in the dictionary, and you’ll see her face.’”
Bush and Murray, 45, famously met on set of the WB series, where they played Brooke and Lucas, respectively. Their onscreen romance continued offscreen, despite co-star Hilarie Burton Morgan warning her against it.
Bush told Cooper that Burton Morgan had previously worked with Murray and it “wasn’t a great experience” for her.
“You know, it was good advice, and I just didn’t have the wherewithal or the experience,” she said, noting that it caused a rift between the women.
“For years, I thought that’s why we stopped being two peas in a pod,” Bush recalled, noting that she “felt so much shame.”
She admitted: “She was right [about Chad]… about who he was then. I know the trolls are going to have a field day, like, it’s all good. And so, for me, the distance was [because] I didn’t listen, she was right and that was it. I didn’t trust her.”

Moving on
Both Bush and Murray have since wed other people.
Bush married Grant Hughes in June 2022, but filed for divorce 13 months later. She secretly wed former soccer star Ashlyn Harris in 2025.
Meanwhile, Murray has been married to Sarah Roemer since 2014 with whom he shares three children — an 11-year-old son and two daughters ages 9 and 2.
